Optoma UHD35STx guide: plan a 4K short-throw setup around lamp service and screen position

A short room does not always need an ultra-short-throw cabinet. UHD35STx uses a short-throw lens to place a 4K image closer to the screen, with a conventional lamp that changes the ownership plan. The useful question is whether that lens position and accessible lamp service suit your room—not whether a low lag headline describes every game mode.

At a glance

Quick verdict

Investigate UHD35STx when a short-throw 4K picture and replaceable lamp suit the installation. Compare a real lamp-and-bracket quote with a laser alternative. Obtain the current drawing and model-specific load specification before choosing a permanent mount; the conflicting published weights are not used here.

The trade-offs

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 4K UHD display and short throw address a specific compact-room need.
  • The fixed lens provides a clear installation target.
  • Optical audio and trigger connections may help an existing AV plan.

Cons

  • Lamp life varies substantially with operating mode.
  • Fast gaming can disable image-adjustment functions.
  • Published weight and latency summaries need reconciliation before precise claims.

Buyer fit

Who this product fits

Optoma UHD35STX

A candidate for a fixed gaming or entertainment room where lamp access is easy and 4K detail matters. Less appealing for someone seeking a portable smart projector or an installation that depends on extensive digital correction.

A useful image size from roughly half a screen width

The stated 0.5:1 ratio gives about 43.6 inches of lens distance for a 100-inch 16:9 picture. That is close enough to make compact-room installation plausible, but not close enough to treat it like an ultra-short-throw cabinet projector. The optics are fixed. Position the mount with the actual screen dimensions and offset in mind, and leave a sensible service route to the lamp compartment rather than trapping the projector in furniture.

Read the timing with the source mode attached

Optoma’s web feature copy pairs 1080p at 240 Hz with 4.2 ms and 4K at 60 Hz with 16.9 ms. The manual’s mode table instead lists 4 ms and 16.7 ms for those signals and notes that values can vary. These are manufacturer claims, not our measurements or a guaranteed result. The useful distinction is the source mode—not a few tenths of a millisecond between documents. Enhanced Gaming also disables geometry-related adjustments. Check your console or PC output and align the projector physically before treating a fast-mode headline as a reason to buy.

Plan for the light source as an ownership item

Optoma lists different lamp-life maxima for Bright, Eco and Dynamic operation. They are mode-dependent ratings, not a single replacement interval you can count on. A buyer watching mostly at night may accept lamp maintenance in exchange for a suitable current purchase price; a hard-to-reach ceiling installation makes maintenance more inconvenient. Compare the actual projector price, replacement-lamp availability and access to the housing. The laser UHZ35ST is a relevant alternative because its lens class and 4K output address a similar room, while its light-source ownership differs.

A purchase check, not a finished mounting specification

The current US webpage and retained datasheet still give different net weights. This guide does not average them, quote a bracket capacity or approve a ceiling position. Obtain the current model drawing and load requirement from the supplier. If the installation quote leaves no room for that check, postpone the hardware order.

Questions before you buy

Does 4K UHD mean 4K at 240 Hz?

No. Resolution, input refresh and display timing must be checked as a combination. The fast lower-resolution mode should not be described as 4K/240.

How often will the lamp need changing?

There is no verified fixed replacement schedule for your usage. Use the operating-mode ratings as planning information and confirm the correct genuine replacement lamp before purchase.

The bottom line

Final buying guidance

Price the complete fixed installation, including lamp access and audio connections. If a well-aligned short-throw setup is feasible, compare this model with a laser alternative on ownership and the exact signal modes you will use, rather than on an isolated latency headline.
