At a glance
Quick verdict
The UHZ35ST makes sense to investigate when you need short-throw 4K and expect frequent use. Its strongest practical advantage over a similar lamp model is ownership convenience, not a demonstrated promise of better color or contrast in every room.
The trade-offs
Pros & cons
Pros
- 4K UHD output with a laser source suits regular fixed use.
- Short throw keeps the lens near the screen.
- Documented eARC offers a useful audio-planning option.
Cons
- Fixed optics limit placement flexibility.
- Fastest latency and 4K operation are different signal cases.
- A laser-life claim does not guarantee total product life or picture quality.
Buyer fit
Who this product fits
Optoma UHZ35ST
A useful candidate for a regularly used 4K room or simulator with a clear short-throw mount. Buyers choosing primarily for film color accuracy should seek an actual demonstration rather than treating laser as a quality score.

The lens is short throw, not cabinet-distance ultra short throw
At a 100-inch 16:9 image, the nominal ratio gives about 43.2 inches of lens distance. The ratio is close to that of the UHD35STx, but that does not prove an existing mount, screen offset or bracket is interchangeable. Measure from the lens, check the body dimensions and preserve ventilation. If the projector must sit inches from the screen, the GT4000UHD belongs to a different lens category and requires a different furniture plan.
Match the refresh rate to the resolution
The current product page identifies separate response figures for 1080p/240 and 4K/60. That distinction is more useful than treating the lower figure as the whole product. A simulator interface or detailed movie image may favor 4K; a fast game may favor the lower-resolution high-refresh mode. Check the manual’s restrictions around gaming and geometric correction, then test the source format you care about. Compatibility with a signal does not establish the performance of every picture-processing mode.
Think through eARC and long-term access
The US datasheet identifies an HDMI eARC connection alongside the second HDMI input. That can be relevant when planning a compatible audio system, but it does not establish support for every audio format or equipment combination. Confirm the route with the receiver or soundbar you already own. The laser-life rating is similarly specific: it is a manufacturer operating claim, not an assurance that every component will last that long. Leave maintenance access even though there is no routine lamp change.
Questions before you buy
Will it fit exactly where a UHD35STx was mounted?
Their nominal throw ratios are close, but the complete installation still depends on offset, mounting points, chassis dimensions and screen size. Recheck those before replacing a projector.
Does eARC guarantee a particular surround format?
No. The connector label alone is not enough. Check the projector documentation and the connected audio device for the complete supported path.
The bottom line
Final buying guidance
Start with the lens location and the source format, then compare the laser premium with your expected usage and access to the mount. The right reason to choose the UHZ35ST is a workable 4K short-throw system with simpler light-source maintenance.
